Three ways to renew a failing sewer line, and none of them is the right answer for every line.
All three methods end with a functioning new pipe. What differs is how much digging each requires and what kind of underlying problem each one can actually fix.
A resin-saturated liner is pulled or inverted into the existing pipe and cured in place, forming a new pipe inside the old one. It requires only small access points, preserves whatever sits above the line, and works well for cracking, root intrusion and interior corrosion — provided the host pipe still holds roughly its original shape.
A bursting head is pulled through the old pipe, fracturing it outward while a new pipe is pulled in immediately behind it. It handles more deterioration than lining can, and can increase the line's diameter in the same operation, but it still needs entry and exit pits and still follows the old pipe's general path.
A trench is dug along the line, the old pipe is removed, and new pipe is laid at a verified, corrected slope before backfilling. It is the most disruptive to landscaping and hardscape, and it is also the only method of the three that can correct grade — a belly or a badly sloped run.
Not condition alone, but whether the pipe's alignment and slope are fundamentally sound. A deteriorated pipe on good grade is a lining or bursting candidate. A pipe on bad grade is not fixed by either, regardless of how new the material inside it is.
Camera footage of the specific section in question is what supports a recommendation either way. A contractor who quotes a lining without showing you why the grade is sound, or who quotes a full replacement without showing why trenchless would not hold, is asking you to trust a claim you have no way to check.
